I'm still here and still losing weight!

I haven't had a lot of time to get online and update my blog, so I am finally getting around to doing just that! I am doing great and have lost a grand total of 96.4 pounds now! Look out 100! Here I come!!!!! I am really hoping to reach my 100 # loss by Jacob's Birthday ~ September 23. I think I can do it!

I have gotten a little off track along the way, never given up, but just wasn't counting my points, which is absolutely necessary for me to lose the weight. I am back on track now and just trucking away!

Just want to say "HI" to all of the Weight Watchers gals I haven't spoken with in awhile....I miss you girlies! Have got to check back with you soon, too! Have a wonderful and safe Labor Day weekend!

Bye, Bye Fat Clothes!!

I am finally getting rid of some of my fat clothes, sizes 24 - 21! My mother-in-law is selling some of them on eBay for me. Isn't that super sweet of her?! I have so many more clothes left to be gone through though. It is really fun to watch people bid on and buy my clothes. I plan on putting the money back into a "special place" and when I get to goal weight...I am hitting the clothing stores! Hurry up goal weight!!

Slave to the Scale

I know the "rule" of weighing is to only weigh once a week. Before I bought my scales, that wasn't a problem ~ I only weighed in on Monday's at my WW meeting. But, I just HAD to have a set of scales at home and ever since they have entered my home, I've been a slave to them. There's rarely a time that I go into the bathroom that I don't step on those scales! Whether I'm doing laundry, cleaning, washing my hands, taking a shower, getting ready....whatever I'm doing in the bathroom I weigh myself. And sometimes will weigh myself upon entering the bathroom and before I walk out too ~ twice in one visit to the restroom! I think that I would definitely be considered a "Slave to the Scale."

I don't want to step on the scales every time I enter the restroom, but there they are just looking at me, telling me to step on! I've thought about having Steve put them up for me because if I know where they are, it will be too easy for me to just get them down and jump right on!

What does weighing myself 3, 4, or 5 times a day help? What am I hoping to accomplish by doing this? Should I leave this routine alone? Change it? If so, how? Should I not have bought them? Why did I think I needed them so badly?

These are questions that are on my mind almost everytime I walk away from the scales after weighing myself. While on the scales, I am hoping to see a huge loss...2 or 3 pounds would be ideal in my mind ~ knowing that isn't realistic for every single time I step on! But, I've decided that I am going to put the scales away myself. This is something that I need to be in control of. And I'm starting right now! After I finish here, I am going into the bathroom and putting the scales away. I'm not even going to weigh myself one last time before putting them into hiding! I will no longer give in to the scales.

At the end of the day, it's not the number on the scales that is important! It's the reassurance that I am feeding my family and myself healthy foods and teaching my son to make healthy choices.

~~85 Pounds Gone Forever~~

Tonight's Weigh In was awesome! I weighed in at 190 pounds, so I lost 0.8 pounds, but a grand total of 85.4 pounds!! Yippee, I'm so excited to get another 5 pound sticker. It's pretty funny how exciting and important a sticker has become. I am going to set my next mini-goal to be in the 170's by April 1! {sooner would definitely be accepted though} I bought a few new pieces of clothing....a size LARGE shirt...YEP, A LARGE....not 1 single X in front of it AND I can wear it now ~ THAT is a major accomplishment! I am fitting into most 16's now, but can still wear an 18 just fine too! Super Duper Day!!

The Power of Positive Thinking: 7 Steps to Losing Weight

I have always been an optimistic person ~ I see the glass as half full rather than half empty. Can positive thinking help with weight loss? I really believe it can! When I joined Weight Watchers, I really believed this was going to be the way for me to get rid of this unhealthy weight for good and keep it off. As I continue on my weight loss journey, I have found that beating myself up emotionally about something does not help! Instead, I try to think of what I could have done differently so I can handle it better should the same problem arise again. I have found 7 steps to positive thinking to help get you to thinking in a positive way.

1. Plot out your goals ~ Make long term and short term goals. If you only make long term goals, it may make the process seem much longer and harder than if you had set mini goals and celebrate when you reach them.

2. Envision your success ~ Have a "mental image" of yourself being at goal weight and having a healthy new lifestyle.

3. Don't sabotage yourself ~ Having an excess of items you know you can't resist is just setting yourself up for failure. And remember, "I think I can, I think I can....."

4. Be your own cheerleader ~ Celebrate and cheer yourself on when you reach your goals.

5. Avoid being a perfectionist ~ If you don't succeed 100 %, it's OK! Always leave room for mistakes and realize that they happen to everybody. And most importantly, it is no reason to give up.

6. Follow through with your goals ~ Write them down and reward yourself when you reach your goals.

7. Affirm your self-belief ~ Tell yourself that you are capable of meeting your goals and believe it, because you can do it!

*Thanks to Weight Watchers for the 7 Steps.....the explanations are my own take on them*

What do I eat??

The better question should be "What don't I eat?" The biggest reason I chose Weight Watchers as my weight loss program was the ability to eat ANYTHING that I wanted to. To me, eliminating something from my life forever is not realistic. That would only make me want that food that much more....funny how the mind plays tricks on us like that!

For breakfast I usually choose one of the following through the week:
1. WW muffin
2. Yogurt with fruit and bran
3. Oatmeal
4. Fruit

On Weekends, I cook breakfast when we're all home together. I usually fix:
1. Eggs, and Bacon, sausage or ham
2. Gravy (Pioneer instant is very low in points, I sometimes make homemade gravy if Steve requests it.)
3. Omelets
4. Toast or Pilsbury Flaky Biscuits...lower in points

For lunch I might eat:
1. Salad
2. Campbells Healthy Request Soup
3. Lean Cuisine or Smart One
4. Low-Fat deli meat on 45 calorie wheat bread with Baked Potato Chips
5. Left-overs from the night before

For supper/dinner I fix most anything. I just try to make it low in points as best I can. Some of my favorites are:
1. Chicken (BBQ, Marinated and Grilled, Fried in olive oil, seasoned and baked, dumplins)
2. Salad
3. Baked Potato, Mashed Potatoes, Fried Potatoes, Twice Baked Potatoes
4. Ribeye Steak
5. Rice
6. Steamed Veggies
7. Green Beans, Corn, Greens...any vegetable
8. Shrimp
9. Meatloaf

For a snack:
1. 100 calorie popcorn
2. Baked Chips
3. Reduced Fat Ice Cream
4. Apple & Peanut Butter
5. Honey Wheat Pretzels
6. Any fruit

*These are just some of the things I eat. like I said earlier ~ I eat anything. I haven't cut anything out of my diet. I just try to watch and not eat "junk."

Tonight was weigh in and I lost 2 pounds this week!!! I'm so tickled and hoping that my weight loss has started back up again. I've been on a plateau for a month or so and was more than ready to get off of it! So, tonight was my night to hurdle over it! Hopefully the working out I am doing is what has helped get the weight loss going again.

A Few of my Tips

I wanted to post some of the tips that have helped keep me successful on Weight Watchers.

1. I just do not like plain water well enough to drink 6 - 8 cups a day. So, I found the greatest drink mix to flavor it up! "Fulfill" is the name of it and it is ZERO points. You add 1 pack to a 16 ounce water. The water remains clear and that taste is unbelievable. It has 0 calories, 0 fat, 0 sugars, 0 carbs, 0 protein, and 35 mg of sodium. On the box it says: "Fulfill, Vitamin Enhanced-Fitness Drink Mix." It comes in Wild Berry(my personal fav), Peach(my 2nd fav), Kiwi-Strawberry(good), Grape(good), Black Cherry(too strong),and Lemon(don't care for this one). You can find them in some Wal-Mart's and Food City. This is my best find!

2. Salad, Salad, Salad! I have always liked salad, but not like I do now. The best salad dressing I've found is O'Charley's Reduced Fat Honey Mustard. You can use it as a salad dressing or as a condiment with chicken. If using it as a dressing, you can add a little water to it to make your dressing go farther. Very yummy...... If you have a Sam's card, I recommend getting it there! You get a huge bottle for the same price as the smaller bottle at Ingle's or Wal-Mart.

3. Speaking of salad......I love the "Sunkist" brand sliced, toasted almonds to top my salads. There are a few flavors in these, with Roasted Garlic Caesar being my fav. I also like the Honey Roasted. I can't remember the others' names, sorry...but, they're 1 point for 1 TBSP.

4. Another tip of mine is to add a little shredded cheese to the top of my salad. I don't always get in my milk for the day, and this is one way to at least get some in.

5. Steamed Veggies are the best ~ I like the mix of brocolli, cauliflower, and carrots. I have a set of cookware that came with a steamer. I put about an inch of water in the bottom pot and of course the veggies go in the pot with holes in the bottom, put the lid on and bring water to a boil and allow the steam to cook the veggies for about 10 minutes, or until desired tenderness. I put a little "Light Butter" and just a tiny bit of salt on my veggies and they are scrumptious! Don't know why I didn't eat them before I started WW, they're that good!

6. Shrimp is a low point food! So, I buy fresh shrimp (not frozen) from my grocery store, and mix up my own marinade of Olive Oil, Mrs. Dash, Garlic Powder, and pepper. Stir the seasonings and oil together until well mixed, pour over shrimp and let marinade for a little while in the refrigerator. Cook on top of the stove in nonstick cookware until done. Won't take long. No extra oil is needed in the pan, the oil in the shrimp will be sufficient.

7. Pampered Chef has some great tools to help with measuring portion sizes. I especially like the Adjustable Measuring Spoons, Adjustable Scoop, and Measure-All cup. Very handy items!

8. If you like a little sugar in your coffee, I recommend Splenda. I really like it in my coffee! Doesn't taste any different than sugar, in my opinion.

9. Join a support group of some kind. I attend Weight Watchers meetings with a group of great ladies as well as post on a message board with wonderful supportive gals! Studies have found that people who lose weight with a support group lose more weight than those who go at it alone. It's nice having someone to talk to that truly knows what you're going through.

10. Weight Watchers muffins are yummy for breakfast and they're only 3 points each! They really are delicious!

11. Fruit, Fruit! Eat lots of it and many different varieties! They truly are delish! Apples in peanut butter are one of my favs!

12. Another great tip I have learned, I learned from Weight Watchers. Journaling, or writing down everything I eat has helped in my weight loss. It really will help show what all is consumed in a day and make you think what alternatives you could have made.

13. I have started getting up about 30 minutes earlier, just to get my workout in before work. My time in the evenings is so limited and by the time Jacob goes to bed, working out is the last thing I want to do. Working out in the morning, gets me energized for the day and really is quite refreshing. Now that I've been doing it for almost a month, it has become routine for me and isn't as hard to do as it was in the beginning. Stick with it and make yourself get out of the bed, it will get easier as you go.

14. Invest in a few workout dvd's. Try to find ones that you are interested in. I enjoy dancing, so finding dance workout dvd's was ideal for me. I also use others, but the dance ones are my favorites! You can visit your local library and try some that they have to see what you like before investing your money into it. (I didn't do this, but thought it was a great tip I read from WW magazine)

15. Have a splurge! Eat something that you want! Don't deprive yourself of things you like. You can eat anything, as long as it is in moderation! I wouldn't recommend eating those things every day, but you need to occassionally have those foods or you won't stick with your plan.

16. Fat Free Pringles are *Yum-O*! They taste great and are fat free!!

17. Baked Chips are much better than the greasy regular ones. They taste great too.

18. Realize that a diet will not work long term. As soon as you quit "dieting," and go back to your normal lifestyle, the weight will more than likely return. I have realized that for me, it is a lifestyle change. The changes I have made are not just until I get skinny ~ I want to be healthy for life.

Weigh In Day!!

Every Monday, I weigh in. Today went well, I lost 1.2 pounds! *yippee* The topic at tonight's meeting was earning "Activity Points." I am doing pretty well with that already, but want to step it up a little. I get up 25 minutes or so earlier than I was just to be able to get my workout in first thing in the morning. (I also write down the length of time I workout in my journal along with the workout I choose to do, this helps me to keep up with it) This morning, I worked out to "Yoga Booty Ballet"....it is a hoot! I love to dance, so this dvd is perfect for me! I have also noticed that the insides of my thighs are sore and I can even feel muscle there now! WOW!! I am really wanting to do another workout tonight, we'll see after Jacob goes to bed whether that happens or not. Today was a success!

My workout DVD's

1. "Crunch: Fat Burning Dance Party"
2. "10 Minute Solution: Fat Blasting Dance Mix"
3. "Yoga Booty Ballet"
4. "The Firm: Ultimate Fat Burning Workout"
5. "The Biggest Loser, The Workout 2"

Welcome to my journey!!

I have decided to start a blog to share my journey to a new me. I suppose I should start at the beginning and tell where I started.

I have been overweight most all of my life and have never been comfortable with it. I never made a huge deal about my weight, but inside, I hated it! I have tried dieting off and on throughout my life and could never find anything that would permanently keep the weight off. Sure, I would lose a few pounds, but I would gain it right back as soon as I went back to my "normal" lifestyle. I finally said that after I had children I would lose the weight.

Well, my son Jacob was born in September 2005. And I still had in the back of my mind that I needed to lose weight, but lacked the motivation to do it. Then, in March of 2006 while sitting in the chair at the Hair Salon, I looked at myself in the mirror with the cape around me and I looked enormous, I couldn't believe how big I had allowed myself to get. THAT was the defining moment and the "IT" that I needed to get the motivation that I had been lacking. I researched a few diet plans and finally decided that Weight Watchers is the way I should go. I knew that whatever I decided to do, it was not going to be a diet, but a lifestyle change. I knew that I could not continue to live unhealthily, my son and husband deserved better and most importantly, I deserve better! I joined Weight Watchers in March 2006 and was astonished at how well and quickly it worked for me! I started out weighing 275 pounds and after 10 months, I now weigh 195, my goal is 150. I still have more weight to lose and much more to learn. But I will succeed ~ it is my desire, my goal, and my journey!
